Both beginner and advanced swimmers will benefit from the specialized swim instruction and detailed course preview. Triathlon specific skills such as sighting and navigational techniques, pack swimming, drafting techniques, buoy turns, entry and exit strategies, tempo training and stroke mechanics will be covered! Q&A will follow. MINI TRIATHLON & DUATHLON

The mini distance triathlon will start off with a 250 yard point-to-point swim (in waist deep water along the beach), followed by a 7 mile loop course through the countryside and finishing with 2 mile out and back run across the Deer Creek dam levy. The sprint distance triathlon features a 750 meter counter clockwise rectangle swim along the beach, while the duathletes are running an out & back 5k across the Deer Creek dam levy, followed by a single loop 20k bike course through the countryside surrounding the park and finishing with an out & back 5k run that crosses the Deer Creek dam levy before returning for a grand finish at the park. [GET REGISTERED NOW]

HALF TRIATHLON & DUATHLON

The half distance triathlon features a 1.2mi 2-lap counter clockwise rectangle swim along the beach, while the duathletes are running an out & back 5k across the Deer Creek dam levy, followed by a 3-lap 56mi bike course through the countryside surrounding the park and finishing with a double out & back 13.1mi run that crosses the Deer Creek dam levy and onto Deer Creek Road to the turnaround before returning for a finish at the park.

AID STATIONS:
The half distance bike course will have water & Gatorade in bottles at the end of each 28 mile lap. This aid station is for the half distance only. Please plan accordingly if you’re racing in the shorter races.  Out on the run course all races will have water, Infinit Nutrition, Coke, bananas and granola bars at 3 aid station on this out and back run course.

Do I have to finish an event within a certain time frame?

Yes — all races have cut-off times for completing races. These cut-off times are in place for the benefit of volunteers and police. In all cases, these cut-off times are very lenient — allowing virtually everyone to finish our events. The following are cut-off times for the Deer Creek Fall Challenge events: Mini — 2hr, Sprint — 2hr 30min, Olympic — 4hr 30min, Half — 8hr 00min. (from the start of the last wave)
The bike course closes at 1:30pm. Everyone MUST be off the course at this time.  No one will be permitted to start a 3rd lap of the bike after 12:45pm.

RELAYS
For those who prefer to race one element of the triathlon or duathlon we offer a relay division for our sprint, Olympic & half distance triathlons and duathlons. Relay teams consist of three (3) members (1 swimmer, 1 biker, 1 runner), each member will complete one segment of the race (2 members for duathlon teams). Each team member will exchange their timing chip bracelet at their assigned bike rack. There are NO age groups in this division.

AWARDS
All finishers will receive a handsome finisher medal* and the top three in each division will receive custom awards (including relay teams).

*Due to the flooding in Colorado we’ve been informed by FedEx our finisher medals will NOT arrive until Monday! Really bad timing…However, all finishers will be sent their medal in the mail next week.

NUTRITION ON THE COURSE – VERY IMPORTANT
On the bike: For those competing in the Half distance duathlon or triathlon there are three (3) aid stations located at Mile 15/Mile 36 & Mile 45. These aid stations are “neutral” aid stations and will offer refill (Infinit Nutrition or Water) for your bottles OR you may provide a “SPECIAL NEEDS” bag (ask for bags during packet pick-up) with your specific drink (no glass) or other nutritional requirements. There will be granola bars, bananas and pretzels available too. Special Needs bags will not be accepted after 7:00am on Race Day.
On the run: There will be Infinit Nutrition and Water in cups at Transition Exit, Mile 1, 2 & 3 of the run course. Runners will pass by each station twice. Additionally, there will be granola bars, bananas and pretzels at Transition Exit & Mile 3. There will be a Special Needs table at the Transition Exit aid station for your own nutrition.

  • Sunday, June 16 from 6:00am–7:30am

There is NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION — packet pickup ONLY!

Make sure to go to http://www.hfpracing.com/events/fit/maumeebay/course.htm and print off a course map if you need one. There will be NO course map copies at the race site. We will only have the enlarged maps at the registration area.
