Welcome to the 2016 American Triple-T!

American Triple-T

What IS the American Triple-T?  Well, it’s everything you’ve heard it to be, and more. The event is so much more than your typical “triathlon weekend” — it’s a triathlon achievement of epic proportions for all who partake. It is 3 consecutive days of racing, gelling together 4 races covering a total of more than 70 miles (SPRINT ST) or 140 miles (XTREME XT) for the weekend. You will find yourself swimming in the chilly spring-fed lakes, riding the most technically challenging hills in Ohio, and finishing with out-and-back runs along the trail systems climbing and descending those same hillsides.

The American Triple-T is not for the weak or faint of spirit. Girls-RunningIt has humbled many triathletes who didn’t take it seriously, and it validates a host of others who test their “tri-mettle” at the “T” every year. Athletes from all 50 states, and 4 continents have all sought the privilege of earning their American Triple-T finisher T-shirt. Competitors, volunteers and spectators all come away with a new appreciation of the sport and of the athletes who train and tame mind and body to complete this legendary event.

You’ll also come away with newfound friendships, and you’ll solidify those bonds every year you come together to face this demon. There are even a special few who turned their initial shared experiences at the American Triple-T into a union of souls, and they came back the next year to compete as husband and wife! While we cannot guarantee that you’ll find your soul mate at the “T”, we will guarantee an incredible, unforgettable experience unique in the triathlon world.

running-boom2So please, take your time, peruse the website, and check out all of the unique aspects of this amazing weekend event, then reach deep down and find the courage to sign up and join us at the 2016 American Triple-T on May 20–22. AMERICAN TRIPLE-T CHANGES FORMAT AND ADDS SHORTER DISTANCE OPTION

ATT Shawnee 2016PORTSMOUTH, OHIO – After much discussion and deliberation race officials of the 13th annual American Triple-T have decided it’s time for the event to evolve once again. Once a team only event, the American Triple-T soon added a solo division a few years after the inaugural event. Now after taking a look at the registration demographics, race officials have come to the conclusion it’s time for the event once again evolve and make changes that address the diminishing team entries (12% of the field) and also changes to attract more participants to this awesome event.

2016 AMERICAN TRIPLE-T CHANGES:

  • 5 year age groups for all solo/individual participants.
  • Team scoring will score total time of both athletes (teams will still start together on race #3 & race #4 but no longer do teammates need to stay with their teammate during the event).
  • The draft legal format of the teams has been dropped which allows for all events to be ranked per the normal USA Triathlon rankings (teams may daft on the swim & run but not on the bike on race #3 & race #4).
  •  Finisher jackets for those tough enough to complete the original 140+ mile
    American Triple-T.
  • American Triple-T will offer two distances “XT” (xtreme tri) and “ST” (sprint tri).

ATT Logos FINAL

American Triple-T XT is the original 140+ mile distance event that features a Friday Super Sprint Triathlon, followed by an AM & PM Olympic Distance Triathlon on Saturday and finishing on Sunday with a challenging Half Iron Distance Triathlon. The American Triple-T ST will be a 70+ mile distance event that will feature a Friday Super Sprint Triathlon, followed by an AM & PM Sprint Triathlon on Saturday and finishing on Sunday with a challenging Olympic Distance Triathlon. The American Triple-T XT will feature dominant RED tri  tops and the American Triple-T ST will feature dominant BLUE tri tops to provide instant differentiation of each participant racing.

2016 FIT Family Series & HFP Ohio Rankings Announced

Season-RankingsNew for 2016 is a sophisticated algorithm that was developed by TriRegistration.com to better determine the true champions from HFP’s FIT Family Series and new for 2016, the HFP Ohio Rankings which will rank athletes participating in all HFP events regardless of distance.  The series points system gives the average time for each event 100 points (110 for Sprint, 120 for Olympic, and 130 for Half).  Your points will be the average time (in seconds) multiplied by 100, then divided by your time (in seconds).  If you are faster than the average time, then you will have more than 100 points.  This allows us to get a consistent points system that isn’t affected by the number of participants in a particular event or by the time of the overall winner, which can vary greatly depending on who shows up.  Your total points is the sum of your 3 highest point totals, so you must complete 3 races to qualify.

Both the FIT Series awards and the HFP Ohio Rankings system will use this method to compute the points earned at each event.  From there it is different:
FIT Series Awards are grouped by race distance, thus separate series awards will be given for Sprint Tri, Sprint Du, Olympic Tri, and so on, so you must do 3 races in the FIT series of the same distance (and in the same category) to qualify for a series award.
Examples:
HFP Ohio Rankings are only divided by sport (triathlon and duathlon), so all races count towards your overall ranking regardless of distance.  It is separated by sport and category though.
The best part of this new ranking system? The rankings are published immediately after we post the results online!
Giddy up!

HFP Racing December News

December-Holiday-ImageDecember can be a VERY busy month for most folks with Christmas shopping in full swing, family gatherings and office parties to attend, along with the many other weekly obligations that are already on your plate. So when can you possibly find time to train or focus on that racing goal you penciled in on your calendar for 2016?

Well…I’m hear to tell you that December is not the make or break month on your annual training schedule and it will do you some good to sleep in, gain a few pounds and miss a few workouts. Let December be a month to give 100% of yourself to your family, friends and co-workers. Try not being that annoying person at your family gatherings that can’t eat a piece of pie “because I’m training for…” Pumpkin-PieEnjoy yourself a little and let this time off the “multisport wagon” serve to revitalize your mind and your spirit.  If you’re reading this you’re likely a person that has been blessed immensely with a healthy strong body that allows you to compete in this wonderful sport. So…how about giving yourself a break in December?

Here’s to that second piece of pumpkin pie!

Bring it…starting January 2 😉

In case you missed this in our October Newsletter, here it is again:

We always take time after the season to review comments/suggestions from our customers and see what we can implement for the following year.

Here some exciting and certainly some welcome upgrades and changes for the upcoming 2016 race season:

#1 – The tech t-shirt era has come and we believe based on your feedback…is now gone. Our participants are looking for the new trendy 50/50 soft blend t-shirts in gender specific sizing and cut. 50-50-tshirtLook for the new t-shirts to roll out at our first event in 2016 and even more important (to many of you) is upgraded designs. We’ve hired a seasoned designer that promises trendy and current designs for all our t-shirts for 2016.

#2 – As much as folks loved our live on-site results on our monitors, personal results email and searchable online results…we can do better. Our software has been developed to allow us to do receipt printing immediately following your finish so look for this results feature to be added in 2016. Additionally, we’ll be adding 8 – 32 inch monitors to our results trailer and lowering the screens a full 2 feet. This will address issues we encountered with our shorter and visually challenged customers. Lastly, we’ll be adding a podium and podium backdrop to the finish area for all finishers to have photos taken with their loved ones and family members

#3 – Folks loved our new time trail starts and felt it made for a much safer, participant friendly triathlon start.  However, we did find some of the divisions got a bit bottle necked and it required them to swim over slower swimmers from the previous waves. We’ll be looking at our swim times from 2015 by division and completely reevaluating which divisions are sent off and the spacing in between. TT-swim-startFor example; some divisions can nearly go back to back with no big time break (ie. Male 24 & under and Male 25-29) but then when we send off our ladies 40+ wave we need to give more time for separation before we send off the men 50+ as many of the men in this wave are swimming at a very high level.

#4 – Our software developer is building a new algorithm for the FIT Family Series points race that more fairly represents the “true” winners of each age group. Additionally, we will be adding a new HFP Racing season long points series that will reward those for competing in all or most of our races on the schedule. Most importantly participants will know immediately after the results are posted online where they stand in either points standings. This is all part of the new points algorithm our software developer is finishing up over the winter.

#5 – Team HFP Racing has partnered with Roll as our official bike shop for all Team HFP Racing members in 2016. Along with getting greatly discounted entry fees, Team HFP Racing members will receive significant discounts on bike/gear purchases and any bike service from Roll at any of their Columbus locations.  The 2016 uniforms are being provided by Pactimo and will be shipped out in January. All uniforms MUST be ordered by December 1 – sorry no exceptions.

2016 Schedule Update and Changes:

The biggest news for the 2016 Ohio multisport calendar is the introduction of Ironman 70.3 Ohio to Delaware, Ohio scheduled for Sunday, August 21. This addition of Ironman 70.3 to the Ohio calendar has necessitated a move of one of HFP’s longstanding venues. The Great Buckeye Challenge has been moved to July 24th.

The Vermilion Harbour Triathlon and Duathlon has been moved from Linwood Park to a new venue (Sherod Park) on the west side of Vermilion. Vermillion Park 2016The new venue finally allows us to avoid the dangerous bridge crossing on Route 6 and brings back a single loop 40k bike course for the Olympic distance. Sherod Park also allows for a parking lot transition area (no more grass or trees) and free on-site parking and park entry which has allowed us to reduce the entry fees for this event by $5.00. Best of all is participants will be treated to the same great volunteer and community support that this race has been known for.

See the entire 2016 calendar here. Online registration opens for all events on January 1 @ Noon EST.
