FIT Family Series @ Linwood Park – It’s Race Week!

logo_linwoodpark

Welcome to one of America’s longest running multisport series — the 24th Annual FIT Family Series. Throughout the summer, the FIT Family Series visits six beautiful venues. Each venue features a Kidz Triathlon & Duathlon on Saturday followed by a mini, sprint & Olympic distance triathlon and duathlon on Sunday. So whether you’re racing for an overall title or giving multisport racing a try for the first time, the FIT Family Series is for YOU! It’s ALL ABOUT FUN!

Linwood Park is located on the shores of Lake Erie in Vermilion, Ohio, “A small town on a great lake.”

Also known to mid-west boating enthusiasts as “A great place to drop Anchor.”

The Linwood Park Company was formed in 1883, by a group of Germans inspired by the Methodist Sunday School Assembly at Chautauqua, New York. Land was procured in Linwood Grove, a former picnic grove.

Linwwod-Homes

This fantastic venue provides triathletes with spectacular swim courses along the spectacular Linwood Park beach. The Duathlete’s opening run is out and back featuring a run through the Lagoons and downtown Vermilion. The bike courses are demanding, featuring two Vermilion River gorge crossings. The race finishes with an out-and-back run through the Lagoons and downtown Vermilion with breathtaking shoreline views of Lake Erie for the entire course. This race is a must do for northern Ohio multisport athletes.

PLEASE NOTE: Animals, with the exception of service dogs, will not be admitted to the park.

IMPORTANT MOHICAN ENDURANCE FESTIVAL UPDATE – After inspecting the course(s) last week for the Mohican Endurance Festival I’ve decided to change the run course and keep participants on the park roads within the park. This will still provide participants a beautiful rolling run course on mostly shaded park roads. Trail conditions and medical staff accessibility were key factors in the decision to change the course. Due to the run course now crossing over the bike course as it exits the park the opening duathlon run for ALL distances will be 2 miles. Here is the map my run link and the printable map.

There is also a change to the sprint bike course due to a road closure. The distance is now 24k instead of the originally advertised 20k.

Mohican B_02 (1)IMPORTANT MOHICAN ENDURANCE FESTIVAL UPDATE – After inspecting the course(s) last week for the Mohican Endurance Festival I’ve decided to change the run course and keep participants on the park roads within the park. This will still provide participants a beautiful rolling run course on mostly shaded park roads. Trail conditions and medical staff accessibility were key factors in the decision to change the course.

Ultimately, I feel this will positively impact the race and provide participants with a much safer more enjoyable run course.

Here is the map my run link and the printable map. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the end of the month at the Mohican Endurance Festival.

We also had to change the sprint bike course due to a road closure. The distance is now 24k instead of the originally advertised 20k.

Sincerely,
Shannon Kurek

This weekends season opening FIT Family Series at Deer Creek State Park looks to have some great weather for this series opener. We have Great fun and Great racing scheduled for two days on June 6-7.  Online registration closes on Friday, June 6th at Midnight.Located in the heart of Ohio’s agricultural country, Deer Creek State Park is one of central Ohio’s vacation showplaces. A collage of meadows and woodlands surround the scenic reservoir. This 2,337-acre resort park features a modern lodge, cottages, campground, golf course, swimming beach and boating for outdoor enthusiasts. This venue offers courses that are mostly flat and fast with some rolling hills on the bike.FIT-Series-DC-KidsTriathletes will be swimming along the beach in Deer Creek Lake. Duathletes opening run is out and back featuring a run across the Deer Creek dam levy. So, don’t forget your cross country legs. The bike courses are on mostly local country roads. The races finish with an out and back run that crosses the Deer Creek dam levy and heads onto a local country road. The run course is almost completely flat but does require extra effort when crossing the grass-covered levy. This race is a perfect “first race of the season” to get you ready for an exciting season of racing.

Miami University Triathlon & Duathlon – it’s race week!!!

TriATH_DuATH_MiamiThe 10th annual Miami University Triathlon & Duathlon is Saturday, May 9th and it looks like for the first time in the history of the event we’re going to have Summer-like weather conditions. The forecast is calling for a low of 64′ and a high of 85’…sounds like the middle of July rather than early May. You’ll hear NO complaining on our part as we finally welcome the warm weather to Ohio. We are expecting a field of nearly 400 participants for this Saturday’s triathlon and duathlon. Online registration is still open and will be available until Thursday, May 7th at Midnight.
